After a busy installation week, the opening reception for Adam Juresko’s Shop Show and Arlie Trowbridge’s Vault Show, followed by a really great First Friday we’re working on getting back to normal and reorganized here at the gallery. We’ve decided to follow our opening weekend with a new mix tape each month and we hoped you enjoyed our SPRANG BREAK ’14 playlist we posted back in March. Today would normally be the day we’d compile that list but since the ladies of Quirk are away from the gallery on other business, I’m cranking up some of my favorite tracks and making a playlist of my own! I usually get lambasted for my “old man” taste in music (which is definitely represented) but I’ve also picked some of my favorite summer songs (The Sonics, stellastarr*, The Animals) to combat these bad weather blues. I’ve been listening to a lot of Shovels and Rope lately and I really like the music recommendations I’ve received from friends and coworkers (Haim, Tune-Yards). I love finding out about new music all the time and Spotify’s great for that (Mapei, Gin Wigmore) but some of the songs in heavy rotation lately (“Breakaway,” “Wild!” and “Hitch Hike”) have been ones I’ve heard played by DJs Sara Gossett, Eliza Childress, and Mary Silcox (Bump In The Night)—they have such great taste in music and I really look forward to their monthly gigs at Balliceaux. This playlist is definitely all over the place but so far it’s been a great soundtrack for cleaning, putting shelves together, and forgetting about this lousy weather.
